Maraka Yoga, often referred to as Markesh
Maraka yoga, often referred to as Markesh, is an important concept in Vedic astrology relating to the ability of premature death or significant health challenges. The word "Markesh" means "killer" or "destructive", and this yoga is created by the locations and associations of some planets in a birth chart.
Maraka yoga is mainly determined by the following factors:
1. House Rulership: Each house in the birth chart is associated with some aspects of life, second and seventh houses are considered to be Maraka (Killer), which can potentially cause health problems or indicate the possibility of long life depending on the planets placed in these houses or their lordship.
2. Lifetime indicators: Sun, Saturn, Rahu (North Node of Moon), and the eighth house are considered to indicate long life. These planets and their location in the eighth house can significantly affect the strength of this yoga.
3. Conjunction and aspect: When the Lord of the second or seventh house is conjunctive or initiative of natural male planets such as Saturn, Mars, Rahu, or Ketu (South Node of Moon), or when these male planets occupy second or the seventh house.
4. Planetary Duration (Dashas): The activation of Maraka Yoga is often associated with the time (Dashas) and the under-period (Antardash) of the planets in yoga. For example, if a person has Saturn Dasha and Saturn is a Maraka planet in the chart, then he might face health problems or accidents more likely.
5. The role of Moon: The strength of the Ascendant and Moon is important for determining the general vitality of a person. Weakness in these points, especially if they suffer from Maraka planets, can increase the effect of Marka Yoga.
6. Bhava Balance: The strength balance between ascending and the seventh house is also considered. If the 7th house is stronger than 1st house, it may indicate the possibility of Marka Yoga.
7. Affliction to Atmakaraka: The planet that has the highest degree in the birth chart is known as atamakarak. If this planet suffers from Maraka yoga, it may indicate important challenges in life, including health problems.
It is important to understand that the presence of Marka yoga does not mean that a person will face premature death or serious health problems. The effect of this yoga may be affected by other positive yogas, favorable aspects, and the general power of the horoscope. In addition, the concept of karma and the person's lifestyle, including diet, exercise, and stress management, plays an important role in health and long life.
